Wyvern form not being available lvl1-5 is unclear
|
I started a Druid and wanted to play wyvern. I killed the miller and started looking at how I can turn into a wyvern. It’s not there.
I thought perhaps I don’t have the right talisman, so I started shopping a few just to try which talismans have wyvern form. None of them. I ask a streamer and he immediately says: ah, you gotta be level 6, even for the basic Wyvern attack. However, that didn’t work either. What worked: the wyvern form becomes available when you cut a wyvern skill gem (or is it just any lvl3 gem?). However, you don’t even need to equip the gem. It’s weird: I need to cut a skill gem to unlock a part of my weapon, regardless of whether I use that skill gem. I don’t think this makes any sense This isn’t clear ingame. I think it’s a pretty poor design choice. But if you’re sticking with this (for which I see very little reason) it should at least be clear ingame. PoE2 wiki is a great source to use.

Update: I just became level 6 and I still can’t use Wyvern form. It seems I might need to cut a Wyvern skill.
This is quite unclear, since I just wanted to try the Wyvern basic attack |

I understand why that feels a bit off, but I also think it's fair to say that you came into the game with externally acquired, partial-information (that there is a Wyvern, but not how to get it, or when you get it) and the game introduces the Wyvern to players at the time the skills and level-appropriate talismans become available to the players.
I do agree that the game lacks accessibility to information though and I recommend keeping the wiki and poe2db.tw bookmarked.
Spoiler
I am dreaming one day of an in-game compendium that is just jam packed with stats and information. Imagine not having to go to external websites to find out that the reason a boss eats you alive is because half it's damage is chaos damage. After encountering things the first time you would be able to read about them and see some base stats and other useful information. The PoE2 wiki is a bit lean on information atm and I find myself bouncing between multiple websites, PoB, and excel. Even things like the armour formula in-game and visible to people would be so much better than how it is now.
You can shapeshift into a Wyvern by using any of the Wyvern skill gems, but to have access to the Wyvern basic attack (Rend) you need to click the Wyvern icon on the talisman itself. It works the same way for access to Maul in bear form, or Shred in wolf form. Who am I to say anything, I don't respect my time either.

" That’s a few fair points. However, rend is not entirely the same as shred and maul: they were available the moment I found a talisman, whereas Wyvern didn’t become available until you cut a Wyvern gem. For example, I can use maul even though I never cut a bear skill gem. Also, Wyvern was visible in the trailer, which is sort of external but also could be considered as info that casuals have seen. Anyhow, I’d still say: just make all 3 forms with their basic skills available from lvl1. I don’t see a reason why someone shouldn’t be allowed to play around with Rend at lvl 1 |
