Exilecon exclusive MTX?
|
Why does GGG not sell digital tickets for those who can't go to Exilecon? I don't mind buying these MTX on ebay, but it would be great if I could just give GGG my money instead of another player. Blizzard does this with Blizzcon and makes tons of money from it.

" It's a cool thought, and it is potentially something they would be open to doing in the future. I think the reason it hasn't happened to-date is that, back when Blizz sold virtual BlizzCon tickets, they had a mobile app to support it and their website likewise needed to be able to differentiate those who owned virtual tickets and support the virtual side of the event. Then there was the small army of GMs & Community Managers in-place to help ensure BlizzCon goes smoothly - attempting to offer virtual access puts upwards pressure on the number of staff supporting a convention, and GGG is at a disadvantage compared to Blizzard in that regard. Nobody would accuse GGG of being a small or underfunded company - but they're going to want a certain number of developers, QA, producers etc. continuing core development work against their usual schedule. They'd also want a non-zero number of both support staff and CMs doing their usual work, too. So while they'd definitely make money doing it, it's possible given the relative makeup and size of their different teams they either consider it not to be workable or they just think it's more hassle than it's worth. It likely doesn't help that presumably a majority of their potentially interested customers - e.g. those who speak English - are in the West, meanwhile their time zone is about as incompatible with that of most Western countries as is possible - which is unfortunate for something primarily revolving around various livestreams. While they could attempt to cater to the other languages in which the game is available, that would only compound staff resourcing problems. I don't even know if they technically hire full-time staff for each of those languages... " Out of interest - I would never do this. Have you run it by Support to see what they make of it? Regardless of whether there is a real-world "code", you would be unambiguously paying real-world money for an in-game item, and the companies that operate live service games tend to be intolerant of that as their position is all in-game items are their exclusive property and no other party has the right to sell them - as to sell something, you must first own it. It's not that I think GGG would definitely be opposed to it - or, if they were - that they would definitely seek to monitor for such and action it. It's... probably safe to do. I just perceive it as a potential risk to an account I have spent thousands of euros on over the decades. I'd also worry about potential scams. And me being lazy probably doesn't help, either. :) GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

" I asked them and they didn't comment on MTX directly. They said [Removed by Support] This MTX code doesn't fit those categories since it can't progress your character in any way. It's also not buying an account, since the code can be given to any poe account and it's not a service. Very strange that they didn't just outright say "codes aren't tradeable" or something. It's even stranger that they give the codes out in the first place if they consider this RWTing. Sounds like they should automatically put the mtx on the account that goes to Exilecon if they want to prevent people selling them later on. Last edited by Sameer_GGG#0000 on Apr 9, 2026, 3:30:45 AM
